On Friday, 9 October 2026, 22 women and men who live and work in Jinja City met at Plot 9, Acacia Avenue, Magwa, and founded the Esonga Community Initiative (ECI). The founder members adopted a constitution unanimously and elected officers.
ESONGA stands for Education, Skills, Opportunities, Nature, Green Innovation and Action. ECI starts in Jinja South Division with the aim of serving all of Jinja City, and in time the wider Busoga region.
ECI is a non-partisan, not-for-profit community organisation, open to all. It is a separate organisation from Esonga Menstrual Care, with its own members, constitution and leadership. Its registration as a community based organisation has been submitted to Jinja City.
